Our Story
In 1953, H. Cullen Reed, Sr. and H. Cullen Reed, Jr. built their first spec home together in Spartanburg, South Carolina. They eventually expanded into custom homes, development, and real estate acquisitions throughout the greater Spartanburg area.
In the late 1970s, Cullen “Len” Reed, III joined the business, helping refocus its core on custom homebuilding—where it remains today. Since then, Len has built more than 250 custom homes in Upstate South Carolina’s most desirable communities. In 2004, he was inducted into the South Carolina Housing Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to the homebuilding industry, including his impact on economic development and quality of life throughout Spartanburg County.
Garrett (Len’s son) worked in the business for several years after graduating from Clemson in 2005 before spending a decade outside the family company with organizations known for operating at the top of their industries. In 2017, he realized that a finely trimmed mustache and a catchy name were not required for reentry, and rejoined Len with a vision to build on the company’s legacy while thoughtfully expanding across the Upstate.
As that vision began to take shape, the team expanded beyond the Reed family, and Garrett’s wife, Allison—a human capital consultant by trade—eventually joined the business as well (Garrett’s persistence was hard to resist). The goal wasn’t to grow for the sake of growth, but to remain a boutique firm—serving more of the Upstate with the same high-touch, highly personal approach that has always defined Reed Construction.
Today, with offices in Spartanburg and Greenville, our team has grown with care—allowing us to better serve our clients, trade partners, and community without losing what matters most: enduring craftsmanship and enduring relationships.
